Broadway Jay shows us the emptiness that is the Burlington Mall parking lot this afternoon.
Burlington Mall
An elderly couple from Burlington is suing both Macy's and its escalator maintenance company for the serious injuries they say they suffered when the railing they were holding onto an up escalator suddenly jerked forward on Oct. 12, 2016 at the Burlington Mall Macy's. Read more.
The Burlington Mall reports it plans to re-open at 9 a.m. tomorrow after it was shut on what would normally be one of its busiest days of the year due to a water main opening up right under one of its parking lots.
Burlington Police report they are looking for a woman who walked out of the Burlington Mall with a Parrot AR Drone 2.0 Elite quadricopter. In addition to the drone, she's noted for "several tattoos on her back."
Burlington Police report they are looking for a guy who may have had some explaining to do at home after a visit to the local Sears this past Mother's Day:
Male suspect entered Sears with two young children, male & female. The suspect concealed perfume & tools on a stroller, then left the store. Suspect was confronted by Sears Loss Prevention in the parking lot. The suspect pushed the loss prevention officer, and threw the two kids in the vehicle. Suspect was about to drive away with the male child hanging out of the vehicle, he then exited the vehicle and threw the child in the car, leaving behind the stroller.
The caliber of weaponry that sends police rushing to the Burlington Mall is going up. Last April, the mall was shut in pursuit of a shotgun-toting man who turned out to be an umbrella toting man. Today, the Globe reports, Burlington and State Police swarmed the mall in search of a heavily armed man, who, in fact, turned out to be packing - a BB gun.
Burlington Police are on the hunt for two women they say stole $4,700 worth of cotton panties from the Victoria's Secret at the Burlington Mall. They say one of them has stolen from the store before.
The same exact thing happened last month in Virginia, right down to the umbrella guy calling up police after he'd left, unaware of the commotion. One key difference: He wasn't packing a ninja umbrella:
Of course, Umbrella Guy showed Caldwell his umbrella. The detective described it as a large, black umbrella with a brown wooden handle. It was a like a large, black golf umbrella, without the company logo, Caldwell said.
Burlington Police are looking for a UPS driver (ex-UPS driver?) they say took somebody on his route for a ride yesterday:
Victim arranged over telephone with his UPS driver to purchase 8 overstock 52" LCD TVs at the Sears in Burlington. Victim was met by suspect pictured in the parking lot where the Victim provided $5,000 cash for the televisions. Victim was given a receipt and told to wait for the suspect to return with the TVs. The suspect never returned.
Serious enough to require firefighters to cut open the roof.

Phillip McCarthy photographs the real faux Burlington Mall (or is that the faux real Burlington Mall)?
DJDiva reports from what sounds like the aftermath of a food war:
... Where did all the 'restaurants' go? The whole thing is boarded up shops. It looks like a mall 4 days before it closes forever over there. My hope is that they are trying to clean it up, put in some healthy options (bring back fresh city!) and make it look better for the launch of the new Nordstrom wing. ...
With bonus rantage about the Macy's and other stores there (but with kind words for the Mac stores and Legal Seafood).
