The Boston Licensing Board yesterday handed a warning to the Tasty Burger on L Street for the beer-holding people Boston Police detectives said they found loitering outside its pick-up window during the St. Patrick's Day parade this year. Read more.

Long-time South Boston residents are fighting a city edict to shorten this year's St. Patrick's Day parade - and vowing they will remember the mayor's role come next election.

In 1978, though, the roles were reversed: Parade organizers wanted to shorten the route but City Hall wouldn't let them. Read more.

Allied War Veterans Council Commander Brian Mahoney writes this week that some hapless volunteer mistakenly approved Boston Pride's application to march in the St. Patrick's Day Parade, that he and other parade officials didn't know the group was gay until two days before the parade and decided to let them march anyway.

St. Patrick's Day Parade in South Boston

Arturo Gossage was among the thousands who lined Broadway today for the annual, if winter-shortened, St. Patrick's Day parade. At least today's (record breaking?) snow held off until after the parade had ended.

Among the photos he took: This unusual car:

The LGBT group announced today:

Boston Pride, which will commemorate its 45th anniversary as an organization celebrating the LGBT community in June, has been accepted by the South Boston Allied War Veteran’s Council to march in the 114th annual South Boston St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

The council had previously given the OK for a contingent from OUTVets after years of fighting to keep LGBT groups out.

Mayor Walsh and parade organizers tonight agreed on a shortened St. Patrick's parade on March 15 that will go from Broadway station to Farragut Road.

In a statement, the mayor added:

This weekend, organizers of the parade will be coordinating a volunteer effort, with the assistance of the City, to clear the remaining snow on the modified route.

When they do the weather, they're not actually standing in front of a weather map, but instead a green screen onto which the station projects the maps (they know where to point by looking at a monitor, which gave us the Pete Bouchard Incident). So if they wore green, they'd look like they have parts missing (whatever is covered by the green). Matt Noyes reports:

A few years ago, got a complaint I wasn't wearing green on St. Paddy's Day. So, donned a green cloak & went invisible.

As the Globe told us this morning, a "small contingent" of gay South Boston residents quietly marched in today's parade.

Also marching today: Scott Lively, a Springfield minister who wants to make it illegal to promote gay rights and who has written that the Nazis were especially evil because their leaders, including Hitler, were gay.

We headed south for a parade today - way south, all the way to Scituate, where we found your classic small-town parade, only with a lot more green.

This just in from the mayor's office:

The St. Patrick's Day parade was born out of the celebration of Evacuation Day, a day set aside to recognize and honor our military and those brave Americans who have banded together for the sake of freedom. And so much of our Irish history has been shaped by the fight against oppression.
