Boston Police report a large group of kids on bikes and scooters helped themselves to soda from the gas station at 870 Massachusetts Ave. yesterday evening and then went after a woman whom they were preventing from driving out of the parking lot.
According to police, the incident involved 10 to 20 Hispanic males, from pre-teens to 20-year-olds, around 6:15 p.m.
The Boston Licensing Board decides tomorrow whether to let Gallows owner Rebecca Roth Gullo take over the Hamersley's Bistro site at 553 Tremont St. after Gordon Hamersley retires next month.
Gullo needs board permission to purchase Hamersley's liquor license.
At a hearing today, Seth Yaffe, who would manage the as yet unnamed restaurants, said the menu would highlight "small, community plates" of international fare - in other words, tapas.
The board decides on the request tomorrow.

Person stealing packages off doorsteps in the South End. Empty boxes found in Ringgold Park we're delivered to Dwight Street address. Another package discarded in the street nearby was from Hanson St. This type of petty theft appears to be in the rise in the neighborhood.

Boston Police report they are looking for two guys for a series of convenience-store robberies in recent weeks - including yesterday's holdup at the Food Basket on Columbus Avenue.
In all five cases, two bald, black men in their 20s came into a store, demanded money - in one case saying they had a gun - then fled on bicycles.

Shirley Leung's column about why she and her husband left the South End for the suburbs is actually a decent enough piece about the problems faced by people who live in the South End who decide to have children.
My problem with her column (granted, as the president of the Center for the Easily Annoyed) is that she conflates the South End with the entire city of Boston - she makes it clear she lives in a binary world consisting of "the city" and "the suburbs."
The Boston Licensing Board today approved requests from Whole Foods to offer patio seating to shoppers who can't wait to get home to eat their meals and to sell the sort of beer, wine and spirits Whole Foods customers would expect.
At a hearing yesterday, a Whole Foods attorney said the chain plans on 103 indoor and 112 outdoor seats at the store being built as part of the Ink Block development on the old Boston Herald site on Harrison Avenue between Herald and Traveler streets.
The Boston Licensing Board today gave J.J. Foley's permission to add a new function room on the second floor of its building on East Berkeley Street.
Attorney Patrick Foley, a member of the Foley family, told the board yesterday the watering hole is trying to keep its dining area open on nights when it offers functions. Currently, the bar has to either shut the dining area for functions or turn away function business, he said.
He noted that unlike many of the other bars opening up these days in the area, Foley's continues to be run by the same family.
The Boston Licensing Board today gave South End Pizza and Grill on Tremont Street permission to stay open until 2 a.m. seven days a week and Levi's Restaurant and Lounge the OK to stay open that late on Fridays and Saturdays.
At a hearing on Wednesday, city officials had backed South End Pizza's request, but opposed Levi's application, because of unspecified police concerns and a desire to have the owners meet with more neighborhood groups than just the Four Corners one they had gotten the OK from.

Michelle Jackson, 27, is scheduled for arraignment today on charges she plunged a pair of scissors into another woman's chest around 5:30 p.m. yesterday at Massachusetts Avenue and Albany Street, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office, which reports the victim, 21-year-old Cambridge resident, is expected to survive, and that the motive remains under investigation.

South End Pizza and Grill, 768 Tremont St. in the South End, received warm support from city officials for its proposal to extend its closing time from midnight to 2 a.m., seven days a week, at a Boston Licensing Board hearing today.
The pizzeria says it wants to extend its hours to serve the growing number of students in the area. The Chester Square Neighborhood Association, the mayor's office and city councilors Tito Jackson,, Michelle Wu and Ayanna Pressley all supported the proposal.
Around 8:30 p.m. Sgt. Luke Taxter at District D-4 reports no injuries.
Police are looking for two Hispanic males, one 5'8, 18-22, with a black T-shirt with some sort of design on it and carrying a backpack, the other about 5'10" in a black leather baseball cap and a black T-shirt, with a black and white sweatshirt slung over one shoulder.
