Suffolk Superior Court Judge Mary Ames today sentenced former assistant Suffolk County District Attorney Gary Zerola to 5 to 10 years in state prison following his conviction last month for raping a woman in her Beacon Hill apartment in 2021.

Zerola, whom People magazine once declared one of America's most eligible bachelors when he worked as an assistant DA in Suffolk and Essex counties back at the turn of the century, had either been found not guilty or had charges dropped in several earlier sexual-attack cases.

WCVB reports a Suffolk Superior Court jury found Gary Zerola not guilty on charges he raped a woman in a North End apartment in 2016.

The Suffolk County District Attorney's office, where he once worked as an assistant DA, said it still plans to bring him to trial on a rape charge for a different incident in 2021.

The Globe reports Gary Zerola, once an assistant district attorney in Suffolk County, was arraigned today on two counts of rape for an incident in Boston on Nov. 10. Read more.

Boston Police report an ongoing investigation of drug sales at 88 Kingston St. netted a couple of dealers yesterday evening.

Marino Spirakis, 35, of Peabody, was arrested on Rte. 1 in Revere after allegedly being spotted exchanging drugs for money with Jesse Bumbaca, 33, of Waltham, who was himself arrested off O'Brien Highway in Cambridge. Police tailed both men after they allegedly conducted their business around 7 p.m.
