The Guardian reports Celtics owner Steve Pagliuca is looking at buying the Chelsea soccer team owned by Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich, who has sanctions and all. Pagliuca would, of course, join the Sox team that owns Liverpool and John Berylson, who doesn't own any local sportsball franchises but who does own the Millwall soccer team in the UK.

For the second time in a little over a month, the Back Bay Architectural Commission has rejected a request by Steve and Judy Pagliuca to turn the basement of 352 Marlborough St. into a garage. Read more.
Judy and Steve Pagliuca hit .500 before the Back Bay Architectural Commission Wednesday night: The board gave them permission to add an addition that would house a two-car garage and a deck in the rear of their house at 362 Marlborough St., but rejected a similar request for a smaller house they also own at 352 Marlborough.
The City Hall hearings on the two proposals turned into a contentious debate on the future of a historic neighborhood where even exterior changes visible only from its numerous service alleys - and the removal of trees - require commission approval. Read more.
Steve Pagliuca plans to tour the state by bus this weekend - along with the 2008 NBA championship trophy.
The final debate for the Democrats' primary election will occur this Wednesday (12/2) for one hour starting at 7 PM at the NECN studio in Newton. The Globe, WBUR, WGBH-TV, and NECN are sponsoring the debate and RD Sahl of NECN will be the moderator (Details at Blue Mass Group). You will be able to get live coverage of the debate on NECN, WGBH-TV, and WBUR.
I have received mid-day unsoliticed political calls (using minutes on my cell phone no less) for Steve Pagliuca on Thursday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday now too. I'm almost positive I recieved one or two prior to Thursday as well but I can't find those as readily in my cell phone's call log.
Enough is enough. Not only is it flat out annoying to receive these calls while I'm at work, but on top of that, they're coming from seemingly random 3-digit "phone numbers" on my caller ID so it's impossible to identify the caller. Then, the other day, one of them came from a DC number.
The Globe provides the fight coverage.
Jay Fitzgerald thinks Coakley and Capuano delivered solid upper cuts with their references to the pedophilia scandals:
... [T]hey were extremely effective, well-chosen punches that make it hard for the church to respond. …
Ed Coppinger reports:
It seems 3 days a week for the last month or so there has been a candidate for Mayor or Boston City Council shaking hands at one of the Parkway’s hot-spots. Now I can add Candidate for U.S. Senate to that list.
Coppinger posts a photo of Steve Pagliuca looking admiringly at young ward Matt O'Malley, who used to be a regular at Roche Bros. during his runs for city council.
David Bernstein reports Matt O'Malley is quitting his job as political director of Mass Equality to become a field coordinator for Steve Pagliuca.
Seems Pags was a bit too busy making money with Mitt Romney to bother voting for a decade: Channel 5 posts a copy of his voting record, which shows he voted in exactly one election in the 1990s. Kennedyseat.com says this might be a bit of an issue.
The Outraged Liberal dissects Steve Pagliuca's nascent Senate campaign:
... Unlike Chris Gabrieli, another multimillion candidate of years past, Pagliuca does not even have a record of laboring in the wonk trenches, tackling issues like education.
Rather Pagliuca presents as the ultimate dilettante. His bid to join Jack Connors in buying the Boston Globe rejected, he appears to have turned his attention to another toy to purchase for his personal sandbox. ...
So Pagliuca's in and his paid supporters no doubt gave him a rousing cheer at his announcement. His Web site is up, as well (h/t Kennedy Seat). Call me picky (just not late for dinner), but if you're going to use a Massachusetts outline that's detailed enough to navigate a tanker by, shouldn't you include the Islands, too?
The site has the obligatory YouTube video, which doesn't tell you anything at all, except how to pronounce the candidate's name, but which is filmed in exciting SwivelVision.
Compare with the YouTube video on Mike Capuano's site, which actually tells you the candidate's record (another Kennedy Seat h/t).
Blue Mass. Group reports Mitt Romney BFF Steve Pagliuca was advertising yesterday for attractive people (headshots required) to staff his Senate announcement at the Garden today and, presumably, cheer orgasmically at the end of each of his sentences. $15 an hour.
The Herald reports that Celtics co-owner Steve Pagliuca is thinking about running for open Senate seat as a Democrat.
Ed. I wasn't going to announce this yet announcement: After careful consideration and consultation with my family, I have decided I will not be a candidate for the open Senate seat.
