Northeastern University today filed a "letter of intent" with the BPDA that it plans to replace Matthews Arena - built as Boston Arena in the early 1900s and once home to the Bruins and Celtics - with a new 290,000-square-foot facility that will include both an arena for university teams and a fieldhouse for recreational student use. Boston Police report they are looking for a guy in a plaid long-sleeve shirt with one of the fancier Stop & Shop reusable bags who they say held up the Black Sheep Multiservice store at 537 Dudley St. in Roxbury around 5:40 p.m. on Tuesday. Read more.

Boston Police report arresting a 13-year-old after he returned to the Mr. Pleasant Play Area to retrieve the handgun with 10 loaded rounds somebody had left there Monday morning - along with another young teen and a Charlestown man. Read more.

A federal judge this week sentenced Michael Wilkerson, 23, to 20 months in prison and two years of probation for the "machine-gun conversion devices" he printed up in his apartment that he and a pal then sold to somebody who turned out to be working for the feds. Read more.

A federal appeals court yesterday dismissed a lawsuit by the sister of Juston Root, shot 31 times in 3 seconds by Boston and State Police officers along Rte. 9 in Brookline in 2020, ruling that the officers had more than enough reason to fear for their lives and the lives of nearby people, both because he had pulled what appeared to be a gun on officers outside Brigham and Women's Hospital and because when the officers approached they thought he was about to pull a gun on them. At least three cars were hit in a barrage of gunfire shortly before 10 p.m. on Abbotsford Street, off Walnut Avenue in Roxbury. More than a dozen shell casings recovered.
