A woman who started getting J. Crew junk mail after she used her debit card to buy some stuff at its Copley Place store now wants at least $50 for herself - and the same for the teeming masses who also got hooked up with mailings after making purchases from the clothing chain. Plus at least double damages and lawyers' fees (and she is represented by four separate law firms).

The Supreme Judicial Court today overturned a law that prohibits certain legal immigrants from obtaining subsidized insurance from the state's Commonwealth Care program.

The court said saving money was the main rationale behind a law passed by the legislature and signed by Gov. Patrick limiting the number of immigrants who could sign up for Commonwealth Care - and saving money is not a good enough reason under the state constitution for "invidious discrimination against aliens."

A federal appeals court today rejected an anti-trust lawsuit by some Martha's Vineyard residents against the owners of four of the nine gas stations on the island, saying high prices there are due to a combination of transportation costs, an island ban on new gas stations and large signs the stations use to advertise their prices.
