Update: Board requested Millare meet with the neighborhood group, but said it didn't want to hold her up when the mayor's office told her she didn't have to, so approved her license.

The Boston Licensing Board could decide tomorrow whether to grant a food-serving license to Janeth Millare to open Pinoy Kabayan Filipino Asian Cuisine at 71-73 Broad St. downtown.

Mariebmorris reports a small sign posted to the door of Sakurabana, 57 Broad St. downtown announces its closing, that after 36 years in business, Covid-19 made it impossible for owner Hironori Koga to keep going.

A Boston health inspector today ordered Flat Black Coffee, 50 Broad St., shut until it can clean up the mess caused when its ice machine caught fire. This includes cleaning up the "heavy buildup of water, soot, and chemical discharge on floor," thoroughly cleaning pretty much every surface in the place and having somebody haul away the remains of the ice machine.

See-through building

What's left of the building that used to house the Littlest Bar are a couple of walls being propped up until the developer putting up luxury housing on the site can fill it in with more modern construction.

Times building coming down in Boston

Phil R. took the time this morning to photograph the munching of the building that used to house the Times on Broad Street, making way, of course, for some badly needed condos in a 12-story building. The neighboring building, which housed the Littlest Bar, is part of the project, but its shell will be preserved - given that Bulfinch himself put the thing up back in 1805 - and turned into a lobby and some condos.

Developers have submitted plans to the BRA for a 12-story condo building on Broad Street that would completely demolish the building the Times pub is now in and turn the historic Bulfinch building that houses the Littlest Bar into a lobby for the new building and some residential units.

The Littlest Bar moved to 102 Broad St. after its longtime tiny space on Province Street was taken over by the 45 Province luxury project next door.

Seth Barnett, lawyer for the company that owns the now closed Blue, Inc. on Broad Street, came prepared to a Boston Licensing Board hearing today: He figured somebody would ask why his client would want to name the replacement restaurant after the Broad Street Riot.

And, indeed, board member Milton Wright asked what the deal was with wanting to name the place Broad Street Riot.

A bouncer at the Place, 2 Broad St., faces arraignment next month for a July incident in which he allegedly put a customer into a coma for four days.

A Boston Municipal Court clerk-magistrate decided earlier this month to summon Kevin Blackmore, 37, for arraignment on Oct. 5 on a charge of assault and battery after hearing allegations that that Blackmore punched the man and that he fell backwards, cracking his head open on the sidewalk early on July 19.
