UPDATE, 5:47 p.m.: Spirits in Black reports the lights are back on at Assembly Row, but that traffic remains a mess.

Around 5:15 p.m., Jackie Geilfuss reported the power was out at Assembly Row - including the lights at Assembly Row and Rte. 28.

People are stuck in elevators.

Flooded Assembly stop on the Orange Line in Somerville

It poured, man it poured, in Somerville yesterday and once again, the new Assembly Orange Line station flooded. Or as Michael Femia, who captured the station apres deluge put it:

This is what a brand new multi million dollar MBTA stop looks like.

Seems the new Assembly stop on the Orange Line doesn't do well in the rain. Clydizzle reports on conditions after the afternoon downpour:

First paying customer at the Assembly stop on the Orange Line in Somerville

At 5 a.m. today, the MBTA opened the new Assembly station on the Orange Line (the first new T stop since the T opened the new version of the Orange Line south of Chinatown in 1987). Stuart Spina was on hand and captured Ruthy Rickenbacker becoming the first paying passenger at the station.

MBTAinfo notes you can tell the new Assembly stop on the Orange Line is almost ready for business because they've installed the benches and station-name signs, although hopefully Hulk smash neither.

Don't Look Down, Beantown ambles about Assembly Row, the new mixed-use development going up in Somerville, likes the way it's coming together:

From materials to patterns, the faces of each building stand out from one another. Planned downtowns like this often run the danger of blending into a forgettable vanilla (nothing planned all at once could meet the eclectic nature of, say, Government Center here in Boston or the French Quarter in New Orleans), but Assembly Row avoids just such a pitfall. It has personality. Particularly the Legal Sea Foods.
