Little Sheep Hot Pot, which serves up Mongolian food across the US, hopes to open its first Boston outlet on Washington Street in Chinatown, in the location of a former discount store that was shut in 2015 after its owner and some employees were charged with stocking its shelves with items shoplifted at other Chinatown discount shops. A city health inspector yesterday ordered Hulun Beir, 326 Cambridge St., shut until it fixes a long list of violations, including cooks not washing their hands at all - not that it would matter, since their sink had no hot water - containers in use despite caked-on food and evidence a sink supposedly being set aside for hand washing was being used to rinse food. A Mongolian hotpot chain that wants to break into the US market is suing Little Lamb, 326 Cambridge St., on charges it's using the chain's name and logo without permission.
In a lawsuit filed last week in US District Court in Boston, Xiao Wei Yang Catering Linkage in Inner Mongolia, Ltd. says it originally signed a franchise deal with the owners of Little Lamb, but that it decided to pull out after learning, it says, the two owners were married, rather than competing restaurant operators. Also, company charges, Cheng Xu and Yonghua Qin then refused to pay the chef the company flew to the US to help them set up their restaurant.
