A federal appeals court ruled Thursday that two law-enforcement officers who fatally shot a man in a Roslindale parking lot as he walked toward them with a large knife, taunting them, are protected from a lawsuit by the man's family because of "qualified immunity" - they were acting in the course of their job to protect themselves and bystanders and had no reason to believe they were doing anything wrong. The Supreme Judicial Court ruled today that FBI records related to the shooting death of an alleged ISIS sympathizer in a Roslindale parking lot became Massachusetts "public records" once the bureau shared them with Massachusetts investigators, and that the Suffolk County District Attorney's office has to do a better job explaining why the man's mother shouldn't get copies of them. A federal judge ruled today it's too early for her to consider whether to dismiss a lawsuit against and FBI agent and a Boston Police detective by the mother of the man they shot in front of the Roslindale CVS in 2015 when, they say, he came at them with a large knife. Read more.

WBZ reports a federal judge today sentenced David Daoud Wright of Everett to 30 years in prison for hatching a plot to behead a rightwing writer but which fell apart after he convinced his uncle in Roslindale to go kill some cops - only to be shot dead in the parking lot of the Roslindale CVS in 2015 by an FBI agent and a Boston Police officer who had been monitoring the two and who said he refused orders to stop coming at them with a large knife. Suffolk County District Attorney Dan Conley said today that a Boston police officer and an FBI agent had good reason to fatally shoot Usaamah Rahim in the parking lot of the Washington Street CVS last year: They already feared he was planning to kill a police officer when he started coming at them with "a large, military-style knife."

A new indictment against two men allegedly working with Usaamah Rahim on a plot to behead Americans when he was shot to death in the parking lot of the Washington Street CVS last June charges them with "conspiracy to commit acts of terrorism transcending national boundaries," which could leave them behind bars for life if convicted. Usaama Rahim's mother, brother, wife and other relatives this afternoon stood in the Roslindale parking lot where he was fatally shot on Tuesday, listening as the family lawyer said they hoped to "work productively and cooperate" with local and federal investigators to determine exactly why Rahim died there Tuesday morning. In an affidavit in the case against an Everett man, an FBI agent today gave the explanation for why a Boston cop and an FBI agent felt it important to confront Usaama Rahim in Roslindale yesterday: An 5 a.m. phone call, monitored by federal and local terrorism investigators, in which Rahim allegedly explained he didn't want to wait to travel out of state to behead a specific person, so was going to go out and kill one of the local "boys in blue." The Herald reports after police and the FBI showed surveillance video to them at BPD headquarters. Officials say they will not release the video publicly until after Usaama Rahim's family gets a chance to look at it.

UPDATE: The Globe reports Rahim and that guy up in Everett were planning to try to behead a police officer. Wright is scheduled for arraignment in federal court at 3:30 p.m.

Wicked Local Roslindale reports Mayor Walsh and Police Commissioner William Evans attended last night's scheduled meeting of the Roslindale Board of Trade down at the Sons of Italy that they could go to sleep secure that the neighborhood was not under any sort of threat following yesterday's fatal confrontation in the CVS parking lot (which led the nightly newscasts on ABC, CBS and NBC).

UPDATE: WHDH reports a man with a connection to Rahim was arrested in Everett.

A 26-year-old Roslindale man under a terror watch left law-enforcement officers no choice this morning but to shoot him, Police Commissioner William Evans said.

Evans said surveillance video from the small shopping plaza on Washington Street at Enneking Parkway showed a Boston police officer and an FBI agent retreating when Usaama Rahim began going after them with a "large military knife" shortly after 7 a.m. Read more.

A man under surveillance by a federal terrorism task force was shot around 7 a.m. outside the CVS on Washington Street at West Roxbury Parkway. He was taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital, where he died. Read more.
