A federal judge today sentenced Xiaolei Wu to nine months in prison for reacting to a flier another Berklee student posted calling for democracy in their homeland by threatening her with death - maybe even by being eaten by a homeless person at South Bay - and by reporting her and her family to Chinese officials, including his mother, a government functionary. A jury in federal court in Boston today convicted Xiaolei Wu, 26, on one count of cyberstalking and one count of interstate transmissions of threatening communication for the way he threatened and harassed another Berklee student from China who'd posted a flier posted on Mass. Ave. calling for various freedoms in their dictatorial homeland. Read more.
The state and Berklee College of Music say they free musical performances outside the Aquarium and Wonderland stops twice a week will help take commuters' minds off what are now regular delays due to wire inspections on top of the delays caused by all the slow zones and all the crowding caused by people who normally drive but who have to deal with the Sumner Tunnel shutdown. A Chinese guitar player studying at Berklee was scheduled for an appearance in Boston federal court today on a charge of stalking for allegedly threatening the student who posted a poster calling for democracy in China, by saying he had reported that student's family to Chinese authorities and hoping the student would get stuck with a needle by an addict at South Bay and then eaten. On her way home to Florida from the end of on-campus life this year, Boston Conservatory student Shelbie Rassler came up with the idea of a virtual song, in which several dozen Conservatory and Berklee students videoed themselves playing "What the World Needs Now" and she put it all together in a single video.

Boston Restaurant Talk reports a multi-cuisine restaurant called B3 plans to open in the newly opened Berklee tower on Mass. Ave., where the McDonald's used to be. People looking for a quiet spot to eat might want to look elsewhere because B3 "will be a fluid space where food is alive with freshness and flavor and music just happens."
You've heard of Hawk Technology Systems, right? After all, they hold the patent on displaying videos on a PC and then storing them. Or, at least, they claim they do. Or did, until the patent expired last year. In any case, the company, which has filed 171 patent-infringement lawsuits since 2012 this week sued Berklee College for not paying it royalties for displaying and storing videos. Read more.
