I recall a scene where they're having sex with the Victory Bruin.

Those kids dressed in riot gear with realistic guns (no orange tip) sure are smart and respectful. Ugh.

In person, you can see that they DO have orange tips, and are clearly tagged. The photo isn't good enough to show this, though.

...you'll see that the weapons are correctly peace-bonded. The various Boston area fan conventions have always taken this sort of thing seriously, even before the events of this spring, or the September of 2000.

But feel free to keep on being a cynical hater, anon.

I didn't notice the orange at first, but considering this is the same convention where some attendees dressed in Nazi uniforms took pictures in front of the holocaust memorial, I wouldn't put it past some congoers to not have the most common sense when dressing up in costumes with weapons so soon after a tragedy.

took place a couple years ago outside the Pru, nowhere near the Holocaust Memorial. The cosplayers involved were in outfits from Hentalia, a manga in which the main characters represent different countries of the 20th century.

The (fairly young) people dressed as Prussia and Germany didn't realize the coincident timing with Passover, and when they were informed, were horrified and quickly posted apologies online and in person to the organizers of the con. A couple have even taken part in events since then discussing the issues and potential problems with culturally sensitive costuming.

In any case, there's a huge difference between making an admittedly stupid cultural mistake (and then owning up to it) and walking around a crowded urban center with non-bonded weapons - something expressly forbidden by the rules of the convention (and every other I've even seen) - and enforced not just by organizers, but by attendees as well.

But if you're looking for a reason to assume the worst, AC, I doubt actual facts will sway you much.

I saw a woman dressed as a rabbit on the Green Line and figured there was a furry convention in Boston this weekend. Silly me!
