Deborah Elizabeth Finn attended the memorial ceremony this evening for Dr. Anita Kurmann, who died in a collision with a flatbed truck earlier this month. At the ceremony, a white "ghost bike" was placed where she died.
A Boston Police spokesman said this morning the investigation into the collision continues; no charges have been brought.

A more fitting memorial

Would be an intersection that wasn't designed for cars and trucks to kill cyclists and pedestrians .
TL;DR:
* 2 lanes on Beacon Street so drivers don't treat it like a speedway and crash in to people and kill them. (Beacon's traffic counts are 8-10k/day, which is lower than parallel Comm Ave which does just fine with two lanes.)
* A separated bike lane on Beacon Street so that cyclists don't have to deal with said traffic and double-parked cars.
* Separated bike lanes on Mass Ave all the way through to the intersection so that trucks can't make the sort of turn across the intersection.
* A ban on left turns from Mass Ave between Beacon and Newbury (San Francisco did this on Market Street, so can we).
* Bus lanes and center bus stops so buses don't have to pull in and out of the bike lane and so that a bus with 60 passengers on board has priority over a bunch of cars with one.
Agreed on all fronts but I'd

Agreed on all fronts but I'd like to add that they'd actually have to enforce these laws for once. You can't walk a block in this city without seeing a car parked in a bus stop spot, bike lane, on the sidewalk or going through a red light. How much more blood must be spilled on the streets before we get some common sense laws and take the licenses out of the hands of dangerous drivers?
Car parked in the bike lane?

How is that possible??? The study said the parking lane was underused and could be removed. Must be true.

"Underused" doesn't mean "never used".

Would a center bus stop need busses with doors on the left? Or would it be like a central lane with curbs on each side? Sorry, just trying to visualize.
Depends

Some places have center lanes for buses where the bus runs on the opposite side of the road down a rapid-bus-transit corridor so that the right-side doors still let you out onto a median bus stop that you can leave by way of the crosswalk at the end of it where the intersection is.

Putting bike lanes on the sidewalks and off the roads?
Those are called cycletracks

Those are called cycletracks and are very expensive to build. Commonwealth Avenue will get them through the BU area.

Make the sidewalks 7 feet wider and put a separated bike line on them.

Any word if there will be safety improvements added to this intersection to better protect cyclists and pedestrians? It would be a shame if a brilliant physician died in vain. With all due respect, it's great that a bike painted white was added to the area, but that's just preaching to the choir if you know what I mean. In the days since Dr. Kurmann's tragic death, as someone who lives only a few blocks away, I witnessed absolutely zero change in the behavior of drivers, cyclists or pedestrians at that intersection. People are still driving through red lights, cycling through red lights, crossing on foot against the lights in a manner which endangers everyone. It's disrespectful to this woman's death and quite frankly makes me sick. I truly wish there was a police presence at that intersection ticketing drivers who broke the law, at least for a few days. Seems like there is silence from city leaders and no follow-up as to the exact nature of Dr. Kurmann's death. You would think that an examination and public release of the findings of the truck striking her could be used as a tool to educate the public on road safety. Opportunity lost and more importantly a brilliant life lost.

Road Bike

This kind of bike is obviously the quickest option for road bike cycling as well as may be the bike of preference for racing & most skilled road bike cycling enthusiasts. Whichever design you select, when road bicycle cycling always consider making yourself apparent to other motorists by wearing reflective products and using lights. That is imperative for the safety on the highway, whatever the type of bike you select.
