Mark Novak looked out his window in Davis Square around 8 a.m.
Up in Methuen, meanwhile, Nikluk got to watch some high-school drivers learn about what happens when snow falls on the roads:

The best place to learn how to deal with snow/ice/mix is to find an empty and unplowed parking lot without many obstacles and just go have fun!
Probably good to do this at least once a season for grownups to keep the skills fresh. Ditto for when you buy a new car that has new stuff that your old one didn't (anti-lock brakes, traction control, AWD, etc.)

I try to do that, but one year I missed the curb buried in snow. Ouchie for the new car!

One of my first driving lessons was in a small snowstorm, about 6" deep, with the roads unplowed. Some of the other lessons were in sloppy, icy slush storms. One was on sheer ice. Yay, NH.
To this day, I think that driving on back roads in storms is a lot less scary than driving around during an ordinary rush hour on a beautiful day. Thank God for the T.

I ran into that when I got my first minivan. It was the first vehicle I had with anti-lock brakes.
I was at a night class and came out to two inches of snow plus an empty parking lot. Before driving 30 miles home, I thought it would be a good idea to get used to stomping the brakes and seeing what the stopping distance was, handling, etc.
I just got my first AWD - can't wait to push its limits so I know what they are.
