Young teen shot on Wood Avenue in Hyde Park; second teen shooting there in seven months
Live Boston reports a 14-year-old girl found with gunshot wounds in an Uber car early this morning at Metropolitan Avenue and River Street in Hyde Park was likely shot a few blocks away on Wood Avenue - an area that has seen a number of gunfire incidents, including one murder, and the shooting of another young teen, over the past year.
Live Boston reports the girl, found shot around 3:45 a.m., is expected to live. She had called the Uber to flee after the shooting.
The shooting is the latest in a series of incidents in and around Ross Playground, that have included one murder, in October, of a man who himself had been charged with threatening several people with a loaded gun outside a park entrance last June. Two men were arrested for that murder just this week.
In July, a Dorchester man who grew up in the Wood Avenue area was charged with threatening two people with a gun on Reddy Avenue. In November, a 13-year-old was shot in the leg on Wood Avenue near Westminster Street.
Boston Police records show reports of gunfire on Wood Avenue and Safford Street around 6:40 p.m. on June 20, and on Wood Avenue between River Street and Frazer Street around 8:10 p.m. on Jan. 15. In 2021, records show evidence of gunfire at Wood and Safford around 8:40 p.m. on Sept. 30 and at Wood and Geraghty Terrace shortly before 1 a.m. on June 19. Records show an aggravated assault with a gun at Wood and Edwardson Street around 8 p.m. on June 3.
