Assuming that you are not involved with gang activity and do not otherwise associate with violent criminals you can walk the street carefree of being shot. None of these are random acts of violence and few if any of these incidents have involved innocent bystanders being caught in crossfire. We have a very very serious gang problem in parts of Dorchester and Roxbury. These killings are retaliatory and the shooters and victims either know each other directly or are involved with each other indirectly through gang or criminal organizations. You can rest assured that you will not be gunned down in front of a police station. None of this, of course, is to condone what is going on. The police need to continue to be vigilant in combating gang violence and communities and individuals must be vigilant about intervening with kids and young people to incentivize them not to get involved in gang activity.
