No Fooling! It's April 1 in Cambridge, so here come the Street Cleanings
While it might be April Fools day, the city of Cambridge isn't joking about the date. Loudspeaker trucks, meter maids, and tow trucks were out in full force today throughout Kendall Square and other "Tuesday" parts of Cambridge to herald in one sign of spring's arrival: Street Cleaning.
Around 10 AM, the loudspeaker truck went through and a little over an hour later, a car alarm was repeatedly going off outside my office window. Down at the meters, I saw a very nice white Mercedes being lifted onto a flatbed tow truck. Then, I snapped a picture of the next wrecker in line loading up this Toyota:
I hope the brand new company moving in downstairs didn't just lose a few of their cars. Like some April Fools prank that'll turn out to be more real than they first imagined.

Somewhere I have a photo...
...showing the very polite letter left on everyone's windshields on Beacon St (around the B/C/D cross-streets.) It VERY politely reminded people of the value of street cleaning and asked VERY nicely that they move their cars.
What a difference a zipcode makes. In JP, they just tow everybody...
Yes, but here's a problem Bostonians don't have to worry about
Parking in what you think is Cambridge only to get a Somerville ticket.
I live on Orchard Street
and am 100% sure that the first five blocks of that street are, and have always been, in Somerville.
Do the meter readers know that?
I think the complaint was that they had signs that looked the same as Cambridge, but only in the border areas.
Not sure if that was true, but that was her complaint.
Cambridge and Somerville signs are different
They're not hugely different, but they are different. People like me who live near the boundary learn to tell the difference.
A few of the signs closest to the boundary even say "SOMERVILLE" on them, though not in very large letters, Other than that, Somerville permit parking signs look the same everywhere.
I'd like to show you all with Google StreetView, but the resolution is not high enough.
