He said he understood it just fine. However, as much as you can have a men's social club barring women, the governor is free to choose where he will attend as well, right?
The Governor just as you and I are free to choose who we assemble with, but he said he would attend, then cancelled at the last minute. This isn't about choice, but about the bumbling rudeness of it.
Canceling at the last minute is rude, especially since it was over this issue. Why could he not make the visit and give a speech on how women should be allowed into the club?
Whether the Governor's decision to not speak at the last second is rude or not wasn't the point made by NotWhitey nor was it the point I was addressing.
I'm sorry, it is the point. The Governor has advance people that should check these things out. Either they checked it out and somehow missed the fact they barred women or they knew and only backed out at the last second because a high profile woman complained they were going. There are women only clubs and there are women only organizations as well. Not for nothing but he was speaking to the group for a reason, I mean he does not show up to my male only poker games, someone had to tell him this was a good place to go. The Governor has every right to not show up to the Dinner but he comes off as a bumbling fool by doing so on such short notice. As the club members stated they just assumed something came up, after all he is in charge of a whole state.
Seriously, if you check his barbed 11-word quip, it had nothing to do with the rudeness of it. It was purely about whether the club should exist or not.
If you check my response to his too, it still had nothing to do with how rude it may or may not have been to cancel at a late date.
YOU may have a point to make about how rude the Governor was to cancel so late. I don't. I don't care. Don't ascribe anything to what I said though. I didn't say anything about his manners, only that his attendance or non-attendance has no bearing and makes no statement on whether the club should or shouldn't exist.
Because I just don't think about it. Should or shouldn't the club exist isn't for me to decide.
I simply don't care whether such a club exists based only on its membership requirements. I only care about what the members do in the name of the club or the club as a whole does by its own actions.
Since I don't hear about a lot of Clover Club gang rapes or Clover Club women's-book burnings (in fact until today I hadn't even heard of the Clover Club), I'm going to guess their actions are completely innocuous.

A men's social club that bars
A men's social club that bars women - we can't have that!
What are you talking about?

Choice

May or may not be the case
