Web-site news: whdh.com gets a makeover; Libertarians set up a Mass. Group

New at 7New at 7The tabloid-news station ports a much cleaner look this week, no doubt in preparation for the impending landing of NBC Boston, which will compete with its own affiliate because, well, you know about Ed Ansin and Jay Leno and all that stuff. Interestingly, they seem to be downplaying their on-air personalities: Old at 7Old at 7No more pictures of Kim and Frances right at the top - and the toolbar puts the "Flu Team" ahead of the "News Team." They're enabling comments on news stories (hmm, will they get a different brand of commenters than, say, the Herald?) and getting all socialish, with Twitter and Facebook badges all over.

Meanwhile, there's a new addition to the local political blogowhatchamacallit.

Blue Mass. Group and Red. Mass Group, say hello to Gold Mass. Group, an online meeting place for locals of the Libertarian persuasion to talk about the candidacy of Joe Kennedy (no, not that Joe Kennedy; the other Joe Kennedy). But why gold? And who will step up and start Plaid Mass. Group? Interestingly (well, for us Web geeks), all three sites are running the same exact community software.

Actually, 7 is really pushing the personality aspect. Each anchor or reporter has a video bio. Check them out http://www.whdh.com/newsteam/

So, er, what exactly is the official libertarian stance on the gold standard?

Putting them in a league of one. Unless there are any British Bankers from 1860 who've traveled through time.

The weather section is a big improvement. The weather blog is helpful, especially when snow storms are predicted. I like it.

Interesting, I prefer the old format. It loaded faster and the notes at the bottom actually said when the predicted weather was expected to move in. E.g. "snow predicted. should started arriving about noon." I'm checking out other weather sites for something more to my liking.
