Campaign roundup: Charlie Baker's smoking memo?

Associated Press uncovers a memo from Baker to then boss Paul Celllucci, urging him to sit on news of escalating Big Dig costs until after Cellucci beat Scott Harshbarger back in the day. Tony ponders:

Baker advocated that the financial mess the Big Dig was causing for the state be hidden from the public until after the election in November 1998. Yes, Charlie Baker advised Governor Paul Cellucci to hide important information from the public, the taxpayers, the citizens, the voters of Massachusetts to assure the the reelection of his boss. This is a condescending, insulting attitude and a perfect example of the politics of lies.

The Herald reports the two major candidates for governor are dogged by questions in the final week of the campaign: Baker by Jeff Perry, Patrick by job losses.

Globe: Democrats leading in 4th and 10th districts, although not by much.

WBUR takes a look at Question 1, which would repeal the new sales tax on liquor. 'BUR also lists all of today's various debates.

Punditocracy: Adrian Walker brings nothing new to the Jeff Perry saga. Tom Keane says: don't blame Baker for the Big Dig. Joe Fitzgerald says the Globe sucks for attacking Perry but not Frank.

So Baker did then what Patrick is doing now (and politicians have done since the beginning of time). So the solution is to vote for Cahill or Stein?

I recommend a one week renegade campaign nominating Adam Gaffin for Governor.

Or maybe we should turn politics into something resembling pro sports. Then we could just trade for NJ's governor for a little cash plus a politician to be named later. Then again, Arnie's now a free agent and he's married to a Kennedy - kind of.

You can have him. Killing a tunnel project that would have brought thousands of jobs into the state and would have made thousands more easily accessible to Jersey residents, berating and browbeating a teacher base he blames for school woes despite the Soprano every time the red camera light goes on? Yeah, you take him and we'll take your guy. Let me know how that works out for you in two years. Better yet, you can just wait for us to vote him out at the end of this term and take him free and clear.

Overpaying massively for heavily damaged goods like that! Have Mr. Boras contact the governor's staff and we'll get this deal done.

BTW - will you take Barney as the politician to be named later?

Barney Frank shouldn't stop campaigning by any means, but that's a big gap for his opponent to try to make up.
