So get the fork ready. Associated Press reports the guy who'd been running for lieutenant governor with Treasurer Tim just quit the ticket and endorsed Charlie Baker.

Hmmmph. How rude!

What's that saying again? Success has a thousand fathers, failure is an orphan?

I.e., "We're independent run up to the point that we consider ourselves in danger of not getting a patronage job after the election."

The republican establishment in MA always picks one republican to run for governor, when was the last time there was as republican gubernatorial primary? Romney had to get Bush to give Swift a do nothing postal job before he ran, because he didnt want to run in the primary. Who ran in the primary against Baker? Oh right, no one, the establishment wouldn't allow it.

Now Cahill is running as an independent and the whole time repubs have been crying how unfair it is to have one of their own questioned on conservative values.

Stop crying Howie Carr, and your Wellesly fanboys. If a majority of the state thinks Charles Baker is the best, he will win. If not, he's not wanted, and he can go back to soaking us with health care increases to pay for his millionaire lifestyle.

Early on Tim Cahill lured in some disgruntled voters with the "independent" label. But clearly his running mate wasn't exactly independent of the Republicans. And Tim himself was one of the top Democrats until about nine months ago. So while he's dropped out of the big parties, he's very much part of the Beacon Hill machinery. The only candidate who's really independent is Jill Stein of the Green-Rainbow Party. You won't see her rushing into the welcoming arms of the Beacon Hill insiders. She's been giving the Beacon Hill boys a hard time in the debates - which may be why they're looking for some way to keep from having to face her.
