Woman convicted of murder for fire that killed two young sisters in South Boston

A Suffolk Superior Court jury today found Nicole Chuminski, 27, guilty of second-degree murder for burning two of her girlfriend's children to death by setting their South Boston house on fire after an argument on April 6, 2008, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office.

Sisters Acia and Sophia Johnson were found huddled together on the third floor of their W. 6 St. home.

Chuminski will be sentenced Thursday morning to two mandatory life terms. Prosecutors had sought first-degree murder sentences, which would have meant she would spend the rest of her life in prison without possibility of parole. Second-degree convictions mean there is a chance should could one day be paroled.
