East Boston man about to be flown out of country to face murder charge

A man about to be deported was instead transported to East Boston District Court for arraignment today on charges he stabbed an East Boston man to death in 2009, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office and Boston Police report.

Police say Jose Merino, 31, slashed roommate Jose Ramirez's throat on July 26, 2009, leaving him to die in the East Boston apartment they shared.

Merino fled the state, but when Boston Police learned of his arrest late last year in Virginia on unrelated charges, for which he was due to be deported, they moved to bring him back to Massachusetts for arraignment.

Merino was returned to Boston on Saturday.

Innocent, etc.

or would it be better to just deport him on the original schedule?

Unless you want everybody scheduled to be deported getting the idea that they get one free murder, which won't have any repercussions except putting them on an earlier flight.
