A gushing review of the Big Dig

The Globe gets a copy of an engineer's report on continuing water problems in the tunnels, such as a design flaw that's leading to cracks that let in water. Will require expensive repairs, natch.

The same corrupt construction companies are rebuilding Iraq and Afghanistan, when we leave the roads and tunnells and bridges we built will fall apart forcing our enemies to concentate on fixing their infrastructure and forgetting about the war on terror. Dick Cheney was a genius.

For better or worse, Cheney's still sucking air. Still collecting dividends on KBR/ Halliburton stock, AFAIK.

...for saying that his bosses had said that they didn't want to see negative information in written reports. and when he wrote a detailed negative report, it was edited by a boss -- and turned into a vaguely feel good report. Sounds like some bosses need to be suspended instead (at least).

My 96 yo grandmother says a novena for me every day that nothing happens to me in those tunnels. "Something bad is going to happen there" she says. I, for one, believe her. Especially when I think of the guy I know who got paid 90K a year to sit there looking at TV monitors all day during the construction. And his bosses. And their bosses.

And the hundreds, if not thousands who bought nice homes and generally lived it up at the expense of taxpayers who funded that deathtrap. When I bring people into the city, I tend to take the Sumner in and when people ask me about the city, the first thing I say is "this is the Sumner Tunnel. The one we don't worry about".
