of the registered voters in that District? That's appalling. Meanwhile, people in Algeria, Bahrain and Egypt are taking on the dictators to fight for a democracy.

Fighting for "our way of life" are they? "Democracy"? Indeed- I'm sure they can't wait to vote for one of two sclerotic parties just like us.

over 60%, as is the case here, the election law really should be changed to declare that person elected instead of having a final election between him and the far-trailing second place candidate.

Not when the turnout was just 6%. If Mills and his mom could get another 6% of the electorate to turn out, victory would be his. Likely? Maybe not, but it could happen.

..how many of the 79 write-in votes were for Chuck.

Better to have the vote. Fewer elections means fewer candidates having to talk to the people. Those horrible turnout figures in Roxbury need to be changed, and it's only candidates getting out there that it is going to happen.

. . . sometimes not voting- is more powerful than voting. I wonder if that is what happened here.

Not voting tells the folks in power... what?

You may believe that you're sending a clear message by not voting, but unless you make your opinions known in some other way, in some other forum, the meaning will be interpreted in different ways by different people. It can mean you're dissatisfied with the choices. It can also mean you are just too lazy to be bothered, or it can mean you forgot there was an election, or it can mean you were out of town or otherwise occupied with business you considered more important, or...

The only way to send a clear message is to vote. If you choose to NOT vote for any of the candidates on the ballot, a write-in vote can be quite the specific indicator of what you do believe in.

Of course, the best way of all to let people know that you're dissatisfied and want specific change is to run for office yourself.

Having said all of the above, I'd love for there to be a "None Of The Above" option.

...is what happened here. Too bad. Services follow votes. And D7 needs a lot of servicing.

D7 doesn't need a new city councillor... they need a refresher course in civics.
