Wicked Local Brookline reports Kupel's faces disciplinary action after a February inspection found mouse droppings - "too many to count" - on raw dough in a refrigerator. Owner says he was shocked and fixed the problem.
Apparently anon thinks that Kehillath Israel runs the local kosher certification program, or something.
For the record, KI is on the other side of Harvard Street, but isn't actually "across the street" from Kupel's. I don't think that the ReMax Real Estate office that is across the street from Kupel's has much to do with kosher certification, either.
recently a flyer came from a new Mexican restaurant in Dorchester. One of the desserts was "Mango Mouse Tart". A new treat? Maybe a new source of protein?
about 2 weeks ago, for the first time in years. I recall thinking how filthy it looked and how the people behind the counter kind of fit in with the filthy theme. It certainly wasn't the Kupel's I remembered from my youth.
Bagels were delicious, but the place just turned me off. And now this! Oi vey! What Jewish kashruth board was paid off to look the other way in this case?!??
For a very large Jewish population, the paucity of clean, attractive, kosher take-out places in Brookline baffles me. Apparently, Brookline Jews like their take out food places filthy, mediocre at best and old fashioned (Kupel's, Butcherie, etc.).

maybe they are going for that
maybe they are going for that "new york" taste?
If it takes mouse droppings
If it takes mouse droppings to make a bagel as good as Kupel's then maybe inspectors should start citing places without mouse droppings.
From your lips to Mickey's
From your lips to Mickey's ears. Love Kupels. The miami spread...
And I mean everything
You call that an everything bagel? I'll show you everything.
Always thought Boston made a crappy bagel
Now there's proof. A shame. This is the closest thing to a real bagel the area offered.
aren't they kosher-certified?
...and...across the street from a synagog?
This seems like proof the kosher rating isn't worth the paper it's printed on...
Kashrut
1) Nobody was trying to eat the non-kosher mouse.
2) What's the synagogue across the street got to do with the bakery?

Prank?
Sounds like a prank gone horribly wrong to me. How else do moose droppings get into a refrigerator?
Better question
How does a moose get into a refrigerator? ;-)
Open Refrigerator
Put moose in. Close door.
I always have a problem with the antlers
n/t
Wait for shedding season
Take moose with no antlers, open refrigerator, put moose in, close door.
Open door, throw in squirrel, close door.
You forgot
You forgot to take out the elephant.

Filthy?
Just curious, but how so? The people are always wearing gloves and have their hair covered or tied back.
