She's made it so efficient she doesn't have to spend much time there anymore, Channel 4 reports:
Maura Hennigan takes a stroll around Jamaica Pond with her dog then hits the campaign trail. The problem? It's the middle of the work day. Hennigan's the clerk magistrate of the Suffolk County Criminal Court, she's paid $121,000 a year and the I-Team found Hennigan not at work while court is in session. In fact one of the biggest trials of the year, the Mattapan quadruple murder trial, was before the Suffolk County Court and the clerk wasn't anywhere near the courthouse.

Was she, perhaps, on leave that day?

Edit -- oops -- I see the article answers this -- "she's in a meeting", her staff says.
A few questions
By Pete Nice

1. Why does a clerk magistrate have to do anything with the public? These are basically judicial administrative positions that have nothing to do with the public.
2. I could have sworn the governor appoints the Superior Court clerk magistrate, but either way they should be appointed positions.
3. Why doesn't channel 7 file a records request to actually see if she was off that day? Maybe her staff didn't know. These stories tend to be blown out of proportion in my opinion. I have no problem with people excerising during work, but I can understand the campaign stuff being wrong.

Any idea if someone pulled papers to run against her this year?

Re 1: It's not as direct as police, fire or EMTs, but courts do serve a valuable role in society. And clerks play a crucial role in the court - the place can't run without them.
I suspect that the Clerk Magistrate is something of a high-level manager, and doesn't need to be in the office every second of every day. But it also raises the question, Why is this administrative position elected in the first place?

Maybe she's busy working on her stand-up comedy routine, or her new book, Stay Married for Life

Having state employees stuffing envelopes for a political fundraiser, during work hours, seems to be exactly the sort of thing that the ethics law was meant to criminalize.
You know what though?

If the people vote for these positions, then why should any campaign law get in the way? Maybe "the people" don't mind her doing this during work hours. Mabye she does such a damn great job, she has the time to do this sort of stuff. Why let the competition get an advantage when they might not even have jobs?
That being said, the people have a right to know what she is doing during work hours and how much of it is she doing during work hours. If the people have a problem with it, then vote her out. If not, then let her continue to do it.

Well Pete, you were right, doesn't seem to be a problem with the campaign laws getting in Maura's way. Just a fine no action from Ethics or SJC. Over and done, swept another issue under the rug.

Hennigan was followed around on election day when all elected officials are in the community. Half of her office is comprised of DelloRusso supporters who are trying to ruin her.
I am more interested in why Channel 4 is so interested in bashing Hennigan. Ii it because they are supporting Hennigan's opponent Bob DelloRusso who is former Chief of Staff to former Speaker Sal DiMasi?

Bashing? You must be in the teacher's union. Any time anyone wants to call teachers to account for their job performance - like the rest of the planet - it's called 'teacher-bashing.'

Are you saying this is business as usual?? This is just typical of what goes on under the Hennigan administration. Its wrong so wrong, But i think we've heard the last of this story anyway so don't hurt yourself trying to defend Hennigan.
