I mean by 'social investment'. Some call it karma. There is no need to be calculating about it.
Give to the world and the world gives to you. Like any investment, it doesn't always pan out but it's a world ahead of the grasping cravenness that we so often encounter.
NESN kept getting the little dude on camera , and dispatched sideline reporter Gary Striewski to give him 2 baseballs , one from Jerry ,and one from Don. Plus the Red Sox sent him a grab bag. They handled it well, a good time was had by all. The little dude's parents should be proud of their apple there.
and I love his reasoning:
Ryan, age 12, said that after seeing other people do the same thing on TV, he thought he'd give it a shot too. "I thought it's a nice thing," he said. "And it's good to…make people happy."
Watched it unfold last night - the face on the little girl was priceless. For a second I thought "did he really just give a baseball away??" Great story - good kid. Good job, Mom and Dad.

Saw this as I was brooding over a beer in my Comfy Chair at home last night. Sort of renewed my faith in pure kindness....
