Cascading Comcast crash

Shortly after 10 a.m., Matt, up in Salem, asked:

Major Comcast outage? No tv/inet. Phone # has no menu, goes straight to 30+ min hold. Anyone else?

Apparently so.

I'm still connected to my home computer from the office. Actually I am posting this from the mentioned home computer (I don't browse from work..)

I did that years ago when my employer didn't have a secure sftp drop box and I needed to examine crash dumps from banks (their policies only allowed sftp and other secure transmissions). I had them put dumps on my home server and I could get it at work through my vpn link. I could also securely check personal email or web surf without triggering any company filters.

I was having intermittent issues last night with the X1, but nothing which lasted more than a few minutes. I did see quite a few complaints on-line. I seem to be fine at the moment. Seems to be a rolling or creeping problem.

Every time I use the guide and scroll through the time slots , the whole thing freezes and I get all sorts of Comcast messages. I unplug the cable box and let it reset itself. I have read that the super duper gizmo machinations that come out of that little box tax the insufficient amount of memory that the box has. Comcast will not admit to this , but I know people from varied service locations experience the same thing. Also happens if you are trying to watch say two football games at the same time , and go back and forth. Especially at the most exciting times. Note that this is on the HD box ( have two , same same ) , with the latest and greatest advanced super number one platform. Yeah , I'll trust my home security to you guys , keep sending the mailings, I'll get around to calling.Smith , Wesson ,ur fired ! Any problems , just air some ' The Rifleman ' reruns , that will scare them away.

I have our backup internet (Comcast Biz) wired to my desk. Been downloading a large ISO all morning with no issues on it.

Seems to be OK in Allston. I use Comcast cable, not Internet.

I had an internet connectivity issue Friday evening, but a reboot of the modem solved that.

Whatever the issue was on Monday, it seems to be back in spades. My tv service has been very flaky all afternoon and is now completely frozen. Internet dropped off momentarily, but seems to be back. Looks like this outage is effecting an even larger number of customers. To compound the issue, Comcast has made no attempt to communicate with those customers. No tweets, no automated messages when you call, no postings on their website. Proper customer communication is service 101...
