Pro and con
Pro: I'm going to be able to walk to Pepe's and I need the extra walking.
Con: I'm going to go too often.
Bummed about location. Was
Bummed about location. Was hoping for Boston proper...
Pepe's should be in East
Pepe's should be in East Boston instead, with all the development going on there,up and coming waterfront area. It would be a perfect fit for Eastie. That part of Brookline has limited parking, pepe's is popular, and there are going to be plenty of people that would love to have a great pizza, But driving around that part of Brookline and trying to look for parking is no easy task.
Supposedly...
...there will be more locations opening in the Boston area. Washington Square is the first.
Good and bad...
I grew up on Pepe's pizza in New Haven and most people who have eaten it will tell you it's the best they've ever had. I would say though that even if the ingredients are top notch, the ovens that have been there since the 30s play a large role in the flavor. I've never had Pepe's outside of the New Haven location so I don't know if this new place will be as good. I'm going to guess that it won't, but I'll give it a try anyway. I also understand that the Boston area resident's provincial hubris will make this a contentious topic. But as far as I'm concerned it's only an opinion and it's only pizza.
Yeah, I live in Boston and
Yeah, I live in Boston and will probably wind up eating at the one in New Haven more frequently. That one has outrageous pizza.
Fear not!
I've had Pepe's at all of their Connecticut locations and, despite all odds, the pizza is just as good as at the New Haven location. I don't know how they do it...
Wow!
And I thought I was a big fan! I guess my own provincial hubris keeps me from going to any other than Wooster St. :)
I've heard the Mohegan Sun Pepe's is not up to par
They've shortened the cook time in response to idiot degenerate gamblers who said they don't like it "burnt". But otherwise, I've heard the same thing: unlike Regina or Santarpio's, most of the expansion outlets aren't a pale imitation of the original.
Fairfield was excellent
Although, I went there around graduation weekend and they'd run out of clams for the white clam pizza so I had to settle for other excellent options. I don't think we have anything to worry about.
