Still no answer on where the oil in the Muddy River came from

Brookline.news reports that while the oil that coated birds in the Muddy River came from a pipe near the Brook House, and while that condo complex had been responsible for past oil spills, officials are not sure it was the source, in part because it had earlier removed heating-oil tanks.

On 1/19/2022 Cubby Oil accidentally delivered a load of heating oil to the basement floor of Aram’s Cafe in Belmont, because it’s claimed they had the wrong address and didn’t know there was no tank in the basement. Any chance a similar thing happened here?

Aram’s didn’t reopen, which is sad, because my grandpa brought me to places just like Aram’s and I brought my son to Aram’s and talked about his great grand father. Places like Aram’s are priceless beyond words.

Cushing Square also lost the unrivaled Ohlin’s Bakery, which always had lines out the door, to a freak oven explosion which separated the brick back wall from the building and they retired as well. Hipsters think they have a good thing in Union Square “Doughnuts,” but don’t know what we’re all missing with the loss of local bakeries.

A few years ago there was a delivery to the small strip that contains a good pizza place and tiny post office on Mass Ave. Apparently the tank in the basement ruptured and flooded as oil was being filled and the driver was none the wiser. Closed everything on the strip for a while.

If this was heating oil, there's a real possibility an abandoned underground tank ruptured. The property owner might not even know the tank was there.

It's really aggravating they haven't found the source, almost as if they didn't try particularly hard.

… considering the amount of attention from the media and the public that this got.

My suspicious side wonders about pay offs and cover ups. But I’ll not jump to conclusions. The agency tasked with this might be underfunded and/or understaffed. I do know that the environmental police are.

I’m waiting impatiently for answers.

It's 2024 and it's really hard for me to believe such a massive spill hasn't been traced back to a source yet. This smells worse than the river did when it was freshly contaminated with oil. Thanks for keeping this story alive Uhub.

is fully staffed. More so than ever before.

Many of them have no permits or documentation so it's hard to tell where they are. I lived in a three decker heated by gas since at least the 1950s but an underground oil tank was discovered during some construction in the back yard.

The Brook House was not responsible for this spill, or the previous ones, as heating oil isn’t in use for the condos here. It’s forced air / hot water with boilers and chillers for AC

Anyone look into the new hotel ? How about Brookline Ice and Coal? How about the new buildings on south Huntington?

Oil is a energy source for forced hot air and water in older buildings.

No idea if the condos are or aren''t responsible for any spill, but being forced hot air isn't proof they don't (or didn't) have oil.
