Citizen complaint of the day: Drone over the Polish Triangle
By adamg on Sat, 09/12/2015 - 10:39am
A concerned citizen wonders:
There there is a drone flying over the Polish triangle in Dorchester constantly tonight and other nights as well. Is this legal? And do we have a right to know why it is constantly flying over us? it seems fairly stationary in the sky.

drone on
As long as there is no safety hazard or its not in a no fly zone they can fly any where. No they do not have to tell you what they are doing. BUT! Most drone owners love to talk about the hobby and show of their toys if you ask.
"no safety hazard"?
So, would you consider the possibility of having a few pounds of metal and plastic fall from a height of a couple hundred feet onto your car, your roof or your head...a safety hazard?
"no safety hazard"?
Most drone operators are responsible fliers. It's the irresponsible ones that make the news by doing stupid thing!
Like flying a drone over a high-pop area in a no-fly zone?
That sort of irresponsible?
Exactly!
Exactly!

Well Within the Five mile "NO FLY" Zone
Appears to be a mile within the "No Fly" Zone for general aviation for Logan International Airport,

Good Luck getting any enforcement by Federal, State or Local authorities.
Definitely report it
They are annoying to everyone except the person flying it.
Depending on their altitude
most drones are unstable and can easily be sent into an unrecoverable spin by hitting it with a baseball, stone or even a BB gun.
or a smaller, cheaper drone...or an attack eagle!
Although a small $20 micro-drone dropped in the rotors of a larger drone would certainly do the trick, I'd totally go for the eagle!
Good idea!
Might be a new business to open...drone eradicators.
How about the DroneStalker of Magazine Beach?
People haven't forgotten this from last fall already, have they?

Maybe this guy will move across the river?
The Ron Swanson Approach
Well, while I don't recommend this (scroll down to Item 4), it would probably be effective, and convey a message (what's Polish Triangle's version of "Luca Brasi sleeps with the fishes?").

Are they sure it's a drone?
Are they sure it's a drone?
I mean - have they actually seen it? How high? It'd be mighty tough (though I admit not impossible) to spot anything that small, a hundred feet up, from the ground, at night, with all the light pollution.
Are they hearing something they assume is the buzz of a drone near them? Perhaps the only-a-little-bit-distant (but near-constant) buzz of the blast & vac rig being used on the repainting of the Southampton Street overpass?
