I work at the VA and have to

I work at the VA and have to look at that hideous orange thing every single day. It's unfriendly and oversized and very removed from the neighborhood, you don't see people coming in and out like you'd expect a big complex to have. Their contractors also tossed the bench that used to live at the bus stop in front of their building, which was great for elderly/unsteady patients (this is a selfish complaint but whatever). Why the people responsible for it think fit to go after a project which will REUSE existing structures (Goddard is a beautiful building) is ridiculous.
, which was great for elderly

Pointing out the removal of something that is simple (a bench at a bus stop) and is actually useful for people - especially the elderly and disabled - is hardly a selfish complaint. And removal of a bench at a bus stop sounds really idiotic.
Just to recap

Developer of one of the most expensive developments in JP (as per the article) complains that the developer next door isn't doing enough to keep the neighborhood affordable. Meanwhile, the BRA chimes in patting whiny developer #1 on the back, while basically implying they have the technical savvy of my grandmother.
Sounds about right for the shitshow that is housing development in this city.

Lets stop building housing because "gentrification!"
Six months later when supply does not = demand and prices go up more!

Realizing that Boston has a severe housing shortage and criticizing this developer for an impressive level of hypocrisy regarding affordable units are not mutually exclusive.

What I did allude to is that the state of development in this city, especially where the BRA and developers pretending they care about anything more than a dollar are concerned, is a joke.
Just ask my neighbors that are currently living in a church.

City Life/Vida Urbana got a huge settlement--$150k shared with the JPNC--from the developers of Olmsted Place, so they can keep mum on $2700 rent for a studio while raising holy hell about developments elsewhere. I know--it's just the way things are done but let's not pretend that the BRA or even this shamelessly hypocritical developer are the only ones with their fingers in the pie.
Oh, not pretending at all

I did use the phrase "in this city" in both posts. I merely highlighted the parties relevant to this specific issue.

not just here, I guess, but sometimes the Dickensian/David Simon-osity of the whole thing makes my head spin.
I'm curious to hear how the East Boston thing plays out. I can't see how the landlords have to house the tenants in hotels indefinitely but it also seems insane that they're not held responsible for an uninhabitable building and the loss of tenant property.

she meant not speak up about the insane prices in that building.

to take "mitigation" money from one super-luxe development and then use said money to protest against other neighborhood developments that are significantly less luxe but apparently still not affordable enough for your taste. Again--it seems to be the way of the world (see the recent Stonybrook neighborhood association squabble re what the developer could "do" for the neighborhood) but it just seems especially ick for groups that are so vocal about housing and affordability to take money directly from developers rather than actually ask for concessions that will actually impact the project. It just doesn't feel right, IMO.

In other affordable housing news today ,
''WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Federal Reserve hiked interest rates for the first time in nearly a decade on Wednesday ....
The impact on business and household borrowing costs is unclear. One of the issues policymakers will watch closely in coming days is how long-term mortgage rates, consumer loans and other forms of credit react to a rate hike meant not to slow an economic recovery but nurse monetary policy back to a more normal footing.
