Someone's father/sibling wanted to surprise (in a good way) their family member in the school who's really into Star Wars. The school took it the wrong way and called the cops before going out to ask the guy what he was doing.
I'm not surprised at the outcome. Things didn't used to be this way when I was a kid, bla bla bla....

No kidding. The chances of stranger abduction or other mayhem befalling a kid are lower now than they have ever been. And yet we're more scared than ever.
Besides, there are still some folks out there who haven’t seen Star Wars. To them, this can only be very frightening. A colleague of mine saw this picture and the only thing she noticed was the gun. She didn’t recognize the costume.
Wonder why they just didn't move the guy along, or at least make him take off the costume before putting him in the cruiser (which it looks like they did).
What is it with a white storm trooper character getting busted while batman and bat kid get celebrated? Everyone is all about the League of Justice and Star Wars is all forgotten since the last movie/toys/games were so long ago.
Given the comment title "White characters matter," and given the identity of the guy who made it, the question of intent is entirely reasonable. No "whoosh" at all.
I am questioning whether people are questioning movie characters based on the color of their costumes!
Bat kid dressed in a batman costume, driven around the city in a black Lamborghini and given the key to the city in one instance, and here, a guy in a plastic white suit with plastic toy gun getting arrested.
Yeah, that's silly. I also think its silly that a task force with planes and a surveillance team and a whole circus tracking people buying knives on Amazon find a stupid, skinny, 26 year old Muslim kid, and decide that 3-5 guys confronting him can't maybe use a nightstick or taser or pepper spray to subdue him instead of shooting him. After all the toys in use over months watching him, just maybe a little preparation when going up to talk with him besides having just a gun?
Comments
comments are all upset about the gun
Don't they know Imperial stormtroopers can't hit ANYTHING?
Now that George Lucas isn't
Now that George Lucas isn't really involved anymore, he clearly has way too much free time on his hands.
It can't be Lucas
The stormtrooper isn't wearing a plaid shirt.
Police let him off with a warning
And he's overjoyed at the cops understood the misunderstanding

Kids should be scared
Kids should be scared
Besides, there are still some
"My coworker is batshit"
worse
there are people who think Greedo shot first.
At least he wasn't arrested
At least he wasn't arrested for taking a selfie in front of Vader.
Did he get to keep the helmet on his head for the mugshot?
Awesome!
Awesome!
Kind of a BS charge.

Strange.
Maybe the cops decided he
Maybe the cops decided he wasn't the stormtrooper they were looking for, and decided to give mclovin a ride along instead
*waves two fingers*
This isn't the storm trooper we're looking for.
You can go about your business. Move along.

Please tell me that I'm
Please tell me that I'm missing something, and that you're not conflating the color of a costume with the color of someone's skin.
Whoooooooossssshhhhh
Whooooooosssssshhhh
Thank you for letting me know
Thank you for letting me know, but I'm really quite comfortable with missing the "joke" here
Reasonable

Me too
Me too, but you should encourage him 'coz he's branching out from his usual favorite topic. ;-)
It was a conflation

Apparently,
the Force was not with him.
