Some Chelsea roads blocked when empty fuel tank found with minor damage
By adamg on Sun, 08/23/2015 - 3:12pm
UPDATE: I've replaced an originally dire report after talking to Gulf Oil.
Roads around the Gulf Oil terminal on Eastern Avenue were shut Sunday afternoon after workers found minor damage to a 2-million-gallon tank due to a pressure buildup.
Gulf says the tank was empty in advance of planned maintenence this week - it had no vapors in it - and posed no threat to the public. The Chelsea Fire Department, however, responded to the scene just in case.

It's time for GULF TO GET OUT
It's time for GULF TO GET OUT OF CHELSEA. This prime waterfront real estate on Eastern Ave should be developed into a vibrant residential neighborhood & public walkway along the water. I get so depressed every time I run down Eastern Ave because there is so much potential for this massive site in land-strapped, rapidly-gentrifying Chelsea.
We avoided disaster in Chelsea today, but next time we may not be so lucky. I live at Webster & Eastern, right near the Gulf site. I frequently envision light rail running down Eastern Ave (which is nothing but a speedway currently) onto Broadway thru Revere.
A glut of oil in progress!
With prices bouncing on the floor at $40 a barrel demand from China softening, and more supply expected from Iran and elsewhere, dire predictions that oil is running out made those claiming it not worthy of the public trust.
