All young Rodriguez has to do now is improve on 1-0. But shoot, he killed it tonight. What a feeling that must be for the kid.
Worth noting that with the exception of the Yankees, at a soaring 25-22, the rest of the AL East is playing at or under .500 ball. As listless as they have seemed for much of this season, the Sox remain only four games back.
Whoever wins the Least is not likely to advance very far in the post-season without some big pre-deadline move for pitching. The Sox have time to get better. And the bats won't stay fallow for long.
In the meantime: are you not entertained? This game was a memorable one.
The Red Sox call up a 22 year old left-handed pitching prospect to pick up a struggling rotation and he has a terrific debut. Just like when the Sox called up Kevin Morton in 1991. Let's hope Rodriguez has a little more longevity.
Good Lord. Aase went 6-2 in 1977, and was traded to the Angels straight up for Jerry Remy. Scuffled for a few years as a starter, then found his groove in the bullpen.
Neither Aase or Morton had minor league numbers comparable to those of Rodriguez (particularly since he's been in the Sox organization), so get me some better comps, then we can chat.

A pretty fantastic major-league debut for a 22-year-old.

Too soon
Don't jinx it.
Too Soon Is Right
Don Aase went 2 and 0 in his first two starts in the summer of 1977. You all remember him and that feat right?

Sounds familiar
