Then again, just because some place files for bankruptcy doesn't necessarily mean they are closing. They could be restructuring debt. (depends on the bankruptcy filing)

Good to know they aren't going away. I'd have no place to get yummy turkey tips from.

The place is a GEM!!

In Davis Square Somerville what's the weird smell in McKinnon's Meat Market?... something from the chicken maybe?

it only smells like that if you're sniffing your fingers when in there.

Truthfully, it does have a stank. But I think they do the cutting right there on site in the back so it's going to have a smell to it. But this is a good thing, as their meat has a much longer shelf life than most supermarket meat because it's so fresh.

Now I want some marinated turkey tips mmmmm

especially in warmer months. Yeah, that dead and decaying flesh smell, same if you have ever driven (or bicycled) past a slaughterhouse.

Work in the meat department at an MB. Yes, it can get smelly. When you're preparing cuts, you get rid of lots of trace meat, and lots of fat. It gets stored in similar tubs as you'd place your trash or recycling in, and a contracted service comes and takes it away. I can only imagine they use it to make a lot of other products, like soaps. You can imagine that all of that fat and flesh eventually starts to smell a bit.

And for bloody boxes, plastic, and what have you, yeah, that's gonna start to stink in the summer months. Of the two compactors in our back room, I can tell you the one designated for cardboard only was not the odorous one.

I've been going to McKinnon's for years now and I'm very happy that I found out about it. I'm glad they aren't closing. I hope everything works out for the best.
