A fire that started on the first floor, then spread up the outside walls of 27 Linden St. in Allston, displaced 13 people and did an estimated $750,000 in damage but caused no injuries, the Boston Fire Department reports.
Firefighters responded to what became a three-alarm fire at 7:11 p.m.
Fire investigators are on scene to determine a cause.

Isn't this the 3rd building

Isn't this the 3rd building to go up in flames on that street in just the past couple years? Ugh. Glad no one was hurt this time.
Gee, after that Globe series I guess it was naive of me to think they were going to start cracking down on things like
slumlandlords cramming 13 people into what I believe works out to three 2-bedroom units.No.

This looks to be more like a 6-unit building (probably two per floor):

If it matters

If it matters that much you can look things up on the City of Boston Assessors site.
It's actually a 9 bedroom, 3 bathroom building. Deductive reasoning from there.
And the cause has been declared a short in the wiring above a ceiling.
Were the number of occupants a factor in the fires?

Were the number of occupants a factor in the fires? If not, isn't this an issue for a different day?

In previous fires in Allston, it has been a major factor in evacuating the building and led to deaths and major injuries.

Blocked Exits, etc.

More often than you might expect, tenants will block the exits with their possessions. Old mattresses, boxes of whatever, bikes. Cmon' don't you remember your 20's? It just takes 1 of "those" roommates.
And sometimes landlords put too many people in an apartment.
Mice love to eat wire insulation.
.... Natural gas ... Oil boilers...
Every one of these fires was different and scary. Just because it's Allston doesn't mean it was negligence. Can we hassle a different neighborhood now?

I watched this fire for a while yesterday. Boston firemen earn their year's pay on days like this one. Wearing all that heavy gear and lugging the equipment around is something to see. I can't believe in this day and age that they don't make lighter equipment for those guys. I'm surprised they don't pass out more often. Hats off to them.
