Available space for bikes went up dramatically in Roslindale Square

Bike corral in Roslindale Square

Adam Rogoff was among those attending the dedication for Roslindale Square's new bike corral on Cohasset Street.

The corral, next to the seasonal parklet, gives bike riders a place to stow their bikes as they shop or stroll in the square in an enclosure built out of recycled shipping pallets and steel pipe and dedicated to the memory of George Ulrich of Roslindale, founder of Rozzie Bikes and the Boston Cyclists Union.

When will it end?

First they came for a parking space in Cambridge, but I said nothing, because I was not a parking space in Cambridge. Then they came for a parking space in Somerville, but I said nothing, because I was not a parking space in Somerville. They they took a parking space in Rozzie, and there was nowhere left to park, except for literally hundreds of thousands of parking spaces.

Never forget.

Think of the children.

I bike every day, and I've never used a corral. Nor have I ever had trouble finding a place to lock my bike in areas that lack corrals.

Yeah a regular, unladen bike is fine almost anywhere (although sometimes can pose a hazard locked to street signs on busy, narrow sidewalks). But for different loads (trailer or cargo bike -- farmer's market hauling?) having a larger dedicated area is great.

Are corrals designed for trailers or cargo trikes? The one in the picture looks like it isn't.

Now can we fill up some of the many, many empty storefronts, so these bikers have a reason to come down and use it?
