I agree. I heard this multiple times on the news this morning and I really didn't appreciate it. Do we really need to know this? No, it was intentional to make Bulger look bad and it's juvenile and obviously just being done to settle someones score.
It's also just stupid. Like, OMG a guy in prison jacks off. Guess what, 99% of men NOT in prison jack off. If anything I think it is insane that the jail can punish prisoners for engaging in a basic human function while in private.

I believe Whitey's story about why he was touching/rubbing. He is still Master of his Domain.

The old "administering medicated powder at 3 AM " excuse. Classic.

I'm not sure why though.
I am no fan of Bulger, but when was the last time you heard of any famous prisoner reprimanded for masturbation? Or any prisoner for that matter?
I agree. I heard this

Is this the 1% Bernie wants to throw in jail?
Whew - I thought it was the rich people he was after.
this makes a lot more sense - although according to Whitey - he was feeling the burn - not the Bern.
That may be, and yet ...

To make Bulger look bad?

I think being a murderer, drug dealing terrorist made him already look bad, don't you?
It doesn't make him look bad

It makes him astonishingly normal. A man doing something that every other man does.
Bulger is not in anyone's good graces around here. This just gives him sympathy.
They would be better off just letting him serve his sentence so we can all forget about him until his death notice.
