If only this were very rare: Signal problems near Harvard Square

There was a medical emergency on a train between Central and Kendall, but the severe delays on the Red Line this rush hour are also due to signal problems near Harvard, the T and riders advise.

My god how hard is it to start ordering signal head equipment and setup a full replacement plan!!! (or whats more likely is to replace the signals they need to replace the power and data lines, which means they need to replace the transformers...so nothing gets done...)

Sigh

security cameras and purchasing a full replacement two-way radio system - both BTW were TOTALLY UNNECESSARY expenditures - are apparently more important to management.

How do you know the cameras and radios where not purchused from a dedicated federal funding line which could only be used for "security" equipment and not otherwise applied to signal systems?

The T is horrible at spending money but the federal goverment is too.

The cameras were from a federal grant. He already knows this, we've had this discussion before. He just likes beating a dead horse.

are the ones who reply to my criticisms of the idiotic "you must spend the money on what we tell you to spend it on instead of what you actually need" grant system with "Well, that's the way it is - accept it.

Well, you seem to be under the impression that the T can choose to spend this money on whatever it wants, which IS they way it is. You said cameras, etc. were "apparently more important to management." ignoring the fact that the T has no say in how that money is spent.

If you don't like the federal grant system, fine. But blame the feds for offering them, not the T for accepting them. You're barking up the wrong tree.

I hope the governor has a flack assigned to watch social media and assorted blogs. I will vote for whomever Baker's opponent is. He took the wrong path for fixing the T, commuters are paying the price daily.

I know 100% of the blame cannot be placed on him, but conditions have worsened significantly under the watch of "Mr. Fix-It." 70 min to get from Davis to South Station during rush hour isn't acceptable.

The worst part is, besides the dreaded winter a few years ago, the administration is largely silent when it comes to anything besides more privatization.

Baker won't take any political heat from the failure of the T. For some unknown reason most T riders don't seem to hold the governor & their reps accountable. The legislators from outside metro Boston have no incentive to see the system improved.

Baker will win re-election in a landslide. Few will be protesting at the state house for the sorry shape of the Red Line signal system. (Of course, even if they wanted to protest they'd suck on the train and arrive late.)

I'm tired of subsidizing the driving of these yokels, only to have them whine about their fictitious subsidy of the MBTA.

Somebody needs to show them who is getting subsidized and how, what will happen if the stupid whining continues, and read them the riot act about grandstanding about obstructing MBTA funding.

I've gotten to the point where I want to leave the damn state! Or at least find a job where I don't need to commute via the T. I can't figure out why not only the governor, but also local mayors, don't seem concerned that failing public transit will drive people out of the Boston metro area. It's really souring me on the whole city--and I've lived here half my life. I find myself thinking things like, "Sure, our public transit sucks, but at least we have bad weather and a high cost of living!"

Glad I got on a little early this morning. It was already 14 min between trains and a little tight at 8:00am.

Packed train sitting at the station was told that the train was being taken out of service. Everyone gets off and goes to the train and the other side of the platform. Not 30 seconds after getting into the new train they get told that this train is going out of service and to get back on the other train.

It's always at the worst time! The T is breaking my spirit. An hour and twenty minutes to get from Porter to Kendall. I could've walked faster if it weren't so cold and wet.

On the plus side, they've been cleaning up these messes reasonably quickly. I haven't gotten stuck in any of them, because my commute is at the tail end of rush hour.
