I's not merchants waging a "War on Christmas". They'd have Christmas items out all year round (they practically do anyway) if they thought people would buy them.
Ho, Ho...

I was in Target over labor day weekend.. and the employees were condensing their Back to School stuff to one aisle, and had skids of Christmas Stuff ready to unload.
I'll give Target this. It is like clockwork for them. They DO at least wait until after Labor Day to do this. And Target stores are big enough where they can have two "seasons" running concurrently.
CVS on the other hand just started putting out Halloween Candy...

Thing is, kids are going to be looking for school supplies for another month, when their teachers inform them that they need this type of folder or that kind of 3-hole notebook paper.
Constantly frustrating that you can't find a bathing suit in August for the year's best beach weather, or a snow shovel in March when your old one breaks from overuse.

I always go shopping for new sweaters in February, when they are trying to move them out to bring in golf shorts.
One question
By roadman

Is there any evidence that prematurely forcing the Christmas season on people actually results in exponentially greater sales than if they waited until after Veteran's Day to start the season (like it was years ago)?
It seems to me that, by deliberately restricting the season to a shorter time period, retailers and their suppliers could make just as much, if not more, money, than with the current exercise of extending the practice of Christmas Creep a little longer every year.

I assume that places like BJs and Costco have exactly those numbers. If the trees are up it's because they sell. The snowblowers are coming out at Home Depot as well.
Good question

Just wondering, what would Lowes/HD/BJs display in that space if they waited until post-Halloween to bring out the tinsel?
Unfortunately Yes

Statistics have shown (unfortunately) that the earlier they sell Holiday X items, the more they sell of them.
It's why they keep making the Halloween candy earlier as well. What ends up happening is that we all buy a bunch of Halloween candy in September, eat it, and then buy more for the actual holiday.
I think this may have also applied to the radio business and the Christmas music. The earlier they switched to all holiday, the higher the ratings (and ads).

BJ's should be ashamed of themselves. This is absolutely disgusting. I could never consider BJ's a family store. Because it definitely does not have family values. It's all about the big dollars.
I'm contradicting myself If Heaven Christmas stuff out at this time as profitable then it is capitalism at its best/ worst.
