Peeping Tom/possible robber roaming the Back Bay in a white pickup

WHDH reports Boston Police have stepped up patrols in the Back Bay due to reports of a guy in a white pickup cruising around and looking into people's windows.

A Back Bay resident provides some details, and an explanation for the warning signs somebody's posted along Marlborough Street:

Late night several weeks ago a man tried to break into my apartment by climbing through my window while I was home. I had just walked home from a bar on Boylston Street, and it was about 2 A.M. I heard him trying to remove the air conditioning unit from my window (I'm on the first floor, facing Marlborough Street). Luckily my neighbor came home at that exact time because he was walking his dog, and chased him away. Cops came, and determined that since he attempted to break in minutes after I arrived home and knew I was there, he may very well have followed me home at some point along my journey from Boylston. Hours later, my neighbor was smoking a cigarette outside and he saw a white pickup truck roll slowly down the street and park in front of our building, right in front of my window. When the driver's side window rolled down, it was the same guy. Again, my neighbor chased him away.

This past Friday the same man in the same pickup was seen parked outside my window at 4 A.M. Detectives inside and outside of MA are on this, fortunately, but this person is still out there. What we do know is that he drives a white Ford pickup, license plate 747 WEZ, and while we're not sure what state it is it's definitely not an MA plate. The guy in question is white, in his 40s, brown hair and wore Oakley sunglasses and a hat.

...for vigilant neighbors. I hope this creep is located soon.

...but with a description of the person AND the vehicle -- including the tag number! -- he should be pretty easy to find, no?

Will be keeping my eye out for a truck with this license plate number. Sounds to me like this guy is a stalker... 3 attempts: dusturbing.

Yes, sounds more like a stalker than a peeping Tom, especially since the police think the creep followed her home.

I would go stay somewhere else temporarily, get pepper spray, get an alarm system, and apply for a gun permit.

I could live some place cheaper
And now I have a peeper
He can look in the glass
and see my fat ass
Oh, help, get rid if this creeper.

Posting signs?? Can these people afford the internet? In the Symphony Rd. area, we send out e-mails. I have not seen a sign posted in years!

of course assuming that everyone who lives in the area is a "vested" resident, that is, belongs to community online groups.

A lot of neighborhoods have newcomers who aren't that involved yet.

Signs? Are you kidding? There are so many ridiculous restrictive covenants in the Back Bay that would never allow such eyesores!!
