Proclaiming Jesus's love by blocking a major intersection

Jesus loves you and traffic in Jamaica Plain

Isabel Rey watched traffic come to a standstill in Jackson Square for about 15 minutes this morning as some people proclaimed their devotion to Jesus in the middle of Centre Street.

Pretty sure Jesus wouldn't do this.

Oh, yeah - he'd be down on wall street smashing up a trading floor. Definitely more his style.

This reminds me of the Congressional sit-in.

The Mennonites at DTX last night singing about a fellow who died 2000 years ago stood on the side, were orderly and didn't get in the way.

Religion is a funny thing. On the one hand it helps folks have a belief in who and what they are and why they're here. On the other hand it gives permission to stick ones nose or tambourines in the way of others.

What I miss are the fellows who congregated at Central Square in the 90s wearing costumes which I assume were inspired by what is believed to have been worn by ancient Israelites. They would stand in a square (not in the road though) surrounding the fellow who preached. As with the Mennonites straight out of central casting. It was fun to see costume dramatists who took themselves seriously. I felt as though I was in a Monty Python movie.

Here's a combination that would be fun to see: The Jesus loves you tambourine players, the neo-Israelites and the nude bicyclists all in one big crowd. What a show!

Freedom of religion does not give any belief system freedom to disregard secular laws. Blocking traffic like this is not allowed, and further, they should have had a parade permit. If they had a permit this would have been planned-for by PD, MBTA, etc.

This is what happens when religion runs amok. We frequently complain about select middle eastern beliefs but we need only look closer to home to see we have the very same problem here.

Do you know the UU church was refused a state tax exemption status in TX some years back because it was deemed not a real religion. The ruling was later reversed. The church based in Boston is over 200 years old.

We have the Xtian equivalent of Sharia Law in many southern rural communities and the pastor holds sway. We need only look At the whole marriage license fiasco in KY as one prime example of people supplanting religion for secular law. Civil servants are expected to uphold the law of the land - period.

Imagine the chaos if select police refused to protect certain people because they were deemed sinners in their brand of faith.

Religion is great. Gives many guidance and a moral compass. Taken to extremes it could devastate this nation.

How sad these folks felt this was necessary.

I drove past this about 5 minutes before it started. They had a full police entourage setting up and directing traffic. Cool story tho.

Too late. It already has devastated this nation. You can't even say happy holidays without it being considered a hate crime by many religious nuts. The clean up process has started but it will take decades.

My understanding was that they having a march for peace, not a protest.

So you have a problem with this but not when people protest something you are for. Got it.

To which commenter is this addressed?

Duh, Swirls, obviously this is aimed at Adam, the voice of god-hating secular humanism in Boston.

And if the religion of the protesters was Muslim your article would read as more pro protesters as opposed to bashing it. Hypocrate!

Actually, you don't, because if you did, you'd know the one thing that really drives me nuts is when people misspell "hypocrite" like that. I am not an underwhelming collection of crates, sorry.
