Rhode Island man admits conspiring with Roslindale man on ISIS murder plot

Nicholas Alexander Rovinski pleaded guilty today to federal charges that he conspired with Usaamah Abdullah Rahim and Rahim's nephew on a plot to kill a prominent anti-Islam crusader in New York - and that he continued to try to carry out murders even after he was imprisoned after Rahim was shot dead by an FBI agent and a Boston cop in a Roslindale parking lot on June 2, 2015, the US Attorney's office reports:

On June 11, 2015, Rovinski was arrested for conspiring to provide material support to ISIL but his arrest did not deter his commitment to ISIL. Even after being arrested, Rovinski sought to continue the attacks he had planned with Wright and Rahim, writing letters to Wright from prison discussing ways to take down the United States government and decapitate non-believers.

The three men had originally plotted to kill Pamela Geller in New York on July 4, but early on the morning of June 2, officials say, Rahim called Rovinski to say he couldn't wait and wanted to take out some cops that day. A couple hours later, authorities say, he charged the two law-enforcement officials with a knife when they approached him near a bus stop in front of the CVS parking lot on Washington Street.

Rovinski pleaded guilty to conspiracy to provide material support to a terrorist organization, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, and conspiracy to commit acts of terrorism transcending national boundaries, which carries a maximum sentence of life. He will be sentenced on March 23.
