The strange appeel of Memorial Drive
By adamg on Thu, 06/09/2016 - 4:36pm
Nick McNulty happened upon a newly shorn U-Haul with a driver who learned around 2 p.m. why they don't allow trucks on Memorial Drive, in this case, inbound under the Mass. Ave. bridge.

Summer haircut?
Maybe the driver was trying to air out "Mom's Attic"?
Maybe the driver was just intending to give the truck a nice summer haircut?
I think they should have a laminated card with a map on it with Storrow and Memorial highlighted on one side, and examples of the "truck with a slash" and "NO TRUCKS" signs and the dollar amount "$3000" on the other side. The card gets held in front of your face, and then acknowledged with initials on the rental documents.
"Hit a bridge on these roads with this truck, and $3000 will be added to the credit card charges for this rental."
Yikes
Hope he bought the insurance...
The damage insurance
doesn't usually cover damage to the truck caused by driving under low clearance like a damnfool.
Uh oh...
O.o
People probably...
People probabaly get Memorialed as often as they get Storrowed.
Which would mean...
...U-Haul doesn't have as much incentive to find a solution to this ongoing problem.
I wouldn't say that
They're probably not very successful at recovering damages from college students (who tend to be judgment-proof), it's still a PITA to fix the truck, and meanwhile, it's out of revenue service.
Adorable!
Sorry Elmer!
70+ YEARS
In the early 1950's my dad, a heating contractor was waiting for a delivery of heating fans to be installed in a Cambridge building. The delivery made it as far as Mass. Ave. The truck never made thru the underpass.. Hard to believe that this has been happening for 70 years and nothing has been done to solve the problem.
