Two BPS workers put on leave in lead-water imbroglio
This just in from School Superintendent Tommy Chang on the news that students at four schools may have drunk water from bubblers with higher than allowed lead levels:
We are confident that all active water fountains meet state standards and are fine for students and faculty use. All active water fountains were tested in April, and the results have been triple verified by Boston Public Schools, Boston Water & Sewer Commission and a third-party contractor. There is nothing more important than the health and well-being of our students and staff.
Two BPS Facilities Department personnel have been placed on administrative leave pending the results of an internal investigation.

Adam, Thank you for using the appropriate terminology: bubblers.

Gimme a break. Those little brats barely got a sniff of lead. Everyone needs to keep their panties on. Or is it that someone smells a check?
If you disagree with the established safety limits
on the concentration of lead in drinking water, bitching about BPS' adherence to these limits is not really the appropriate avenue to voice your disagreement.
Not funny
Due to the recent incident in Flint Michigan all issues of Water, lead, and lying government should be taken seriously. If it was your children would you be making such a comment.
Shame on you being the person he was looking from the outside.
Brats?
You are the one being bratty. You are hurling insults at people you have never met and whose behavior you have never encountered.
Speak for yourself.
"Active" water fountains
'all active water fountains meet state standards and are fine for students and faculty use.'
My understanding is that
1. the bulk of BPS water fountains are inactive, precisely because the water is known to be unsafe.
2. that, as a result, BPS students drink bottled water
3. that it would cost half a billion dollars just to make the fountain water drinkable.
I'm looking around for citations on these. Does anyone have them handy?
A lot is hanging off the word 'active' in that sentence.

This is an example of the challenge Chang has
with the school department administrative bureaucracy. The very facilities people charged with approving the drinking fountain swap out and corresponding water quality testing don't read the reports that say the water is still lead contaminated? They authorize turning the devices on anyway because institutional history shows that nothing is going to happen to well connected school department employees.
