The Boston Business Journal reports Japanese sneaker maker Asics will set up a "product creation lab" in leased space near South Station.
It joins Converse and New Balance, which are headquartered in Boston and Reebok International, which is planning to move its headquarters from Canton to the South Boston Waterfront. Rockport, meanwhile, is based in West Newton.

By a longshot the largest manufacturer of golf shoes, is in Acushnet (there may still be some operations in Brockton, but the warehouse and factory were mostly shuttered about 2009).

PUMA's North American Headquarters is in Westford, and they have a huge design and PR office on the top of the Government Center Garage
Maybe Nike will come if we build them a helipad!

I was actually thinking of doing some research for a post on Boston and shoes. In addition to USM (whose headquarters still stands), there was also a local company that specialized just in adhesives for shoes (BB Chemicals, I think). Their Cambridge headquarters is probably better known for the company that took it over after they left - Polaroid. And then there's Henry Wilson, who served as vice president under Grant, who was known as the Natick Cobbler (he walked from his native New Hampshire to Natick, and his cobbler shop still stands on Rte. 135).
Great idea!

Boston was once a big shoe town. The whole region, really.
And sadly I don't have much more to offer, except that the Stop & Shop in JP used to be a shoe factory.
