Military copters buzz downtown, scare people half to death

It's part of some training exercise that's been going on this week. Last night, they practiced at the old Radius Hospital in Roxbury. Goes through July 21.

What the hell???

Flying at this low altitude was approved by the city & coast guard? If not, this guy should lose his pilot's license

It's almost perfectly safe as they are:
A: trained for that kind of flying
B: training for more of that kind of flying
C: using night vision and using sophisticated avionics

A guy I used to work with was:

A . was trained for that kind of flying,
B: trained for more of that kind of flying, and
C: was using night vision and sophisticated avionics.

The copter he was piloting collided with the other copter who was piloted by a guy who was:

A. was trained for that kind of flying.
B. trained for more of that kind of flying, and
C. was using night vision and sophisticated avionics.

The guy I used to work was smart, all American to the core, well educated and he was a super, super guy who could have done nearly anything he wanted to do in life and he chose service to the country.

He died in a training accident over some woods down south. Accidents happen. Don't be so cocksure about the concerns of the safety of the people who happen to be under these birds as they fly low over an urban landscape.

That type of training was done over some woods down south, and this was done over Boston.

I mean, Trump's gunning to take our rights away, so this could be the beginning.

Jade Helm 17!

Yet wasn't it the other guy who was trying to take your gun rights away?

It's this guy who is gung ho to take our rights away.

I mean, it is as clear as day.

I think you think you're being sarcastic and edgy, but you're just right.

I'm at least trying to be sarcastic, and I was backed into a corner, to boot.

That said, it is interesting how the government paranoia shifts with the party of the occupant of the White House.

When will Marty finally admit and the other mayoral candidates address the secret brutal war quietly being fought between the federal government and the restive turkey population?

Practicing for what? A terrorist attack? Hidden nuke? Urban warfare?

And yes, they're dark (black?) helicopters that fly very low. I've seen them. And no, I wasn't high on drugs, or suffering from paranoid psychosis.

Omg get a grip you fearful progressives.

I think low flying helicopters and the overzealous nature of "need to know" by some, not all, not all, by a long shot, law enforcement agencies is not a cause of fear, but more lighten the hell up copper and let the public know what is going on in the city.'

Don't forget, we are not the government's customers, we are its board of directors. I want to know what the hell is going on. If the attitude is "need to know", then the people who they are trying to stop, already know what is going on. Drop the tough guy stuff.

I know that there have been notices published in places about these exercises, but this isn't a meeting of the Conservation Commission in Bolton. It is an unusual action in a city that has been attacked before. A little more notice might go a long way to assuring people what is going on.

By the way, I would like to welcome, Shelly, can I call you Shelly?, to the boards. Shelly, by the use of the terms OMG and Progressives is either a 13 year old who is up early for camp today, or is a 46 year old Herald Reader who lives in a really crappy 1950's ranch house in Abington and is filled with hate for "progressives". Welcome. We appreciate your insights, hope your commenting didn't keep you from watching the latest Kevin James sitcom rerun.

How many years in a row do they have to do it before it becomes not unusual?

I think this is the 6th year.

I don't remember hearing it last year, and I barely remember anything from 6 years ago when your article link was posted. For me, it was unexpected and a little concerning (less so the next night), especially since a couple of police cars went speeding down the street right afterwards.

s/n: I saw the helicopters this morning as I was heading toward Rte. 2 from Alewife.

You city people crack me up (-;

Because only "city people" think that low-flying helicopters are an unusual event? In my rural town they'd raise eyebrows and probably concern, certainly if they couldn't immediately be visually identified as an aerial crane (most common in this area, which doesn't mean "common") or a news helicopter, and we haven't even had a terrorist attack here. YMMV.

I call it bad journalism

I work on State St and got an email from the building management yesterday about this. It word-for-word mimics the letter from Braintree in the linked tweet, apart from being from BPD.

However, it says through July 22, not 21.

I've worked and lived downtown for quite some time and see these helicopters flying in this manor quite often, usually over water but sometimes even lower...

Fine, brag about your downtown manor all you like, but you're not the least concerned that a helicopter is flying into it?

They flew right over my house. Sounded like they were coming through the roof. A little notice might have been nice.

Just how would one have the responses to guarantee everyone and their mother get a notice? Airdrop pamphlets?

They just flew over the Norwood/Canton area about 15 minutes ago, headed toward Boston. I wonder where they're based?
